Description


You are an analyst with experience or training in forest modeling and programming. You have demonstrated proficiency in higher level computer languages and experience in operations research, economics, and other areas of the forest industry. You are eager to learn, engage with subject matter experts, and business clients. You enjoy working in a team environment and you look for opportunities to improve processes. You apply your technical expertise to ensure analytical rigor, effective project design, and implementation of our decision support tools. 


In this role you will work on a diverse range of projects involving forest inventory, carbon project modeling, harvest scheduling, economic modeling, analysis, and implementation.


Quantitative Forestry Analyst Responsibilities:


Use forest growth and yield models for the development of forest carbon offset projects
Apply biometric principles and knowledge of forest stand dynamics and silvicultural practices to create realistic long-term projections of forest carbon
Support acquisitions and divestitures on inventory data, growth projections, and harvest scheduling and modeling
Use a full range of advanced spatial and tabular tools to process, calculate, and analyze forest inventory data
Conduct statistical analysis of forest inventory and related data using industry standard approaches and software
Support design and evaluation of forest inventories and sampling protocols for estimation of carbon and other forest inventory variables
Establish appropriate supporting workflow for the quantification of forest carbon offsets, linking spatial data and systems, growth and yield models, and company databases.
Qualifications


Education


·         B.S. in forestry or related natural resources management degree.


·         Masters level degree preferred.


Experience


·         Up to 5 years experience in biometric or carbon modeling.


·         Use of industry standard forest growth and yield models (FVS, FPS, ORGANON, SiMS, etc.) processing and management of data inputs and outputs, interpretation of results, and debugging model behavior.


·         Familiarity with Remsoft planning software preferred.


·         Coding and programming skills (e.g., C++, R, SQL, and Python)


·         Proficiency in managing, querying, and analysis of data within a relational database environment.


·         Knowledge and experience modeling forest carbon projects.


·         Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.


·         Intermediate or higher skills in ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, or equivalent, for spatial analysis.


·         Strong verbal and written communication skills.


·         Ability and desire to be a team player and support colleagues in all aspects of the company.


·         Ability to prioritize and manage time to meet deadlines.
