Our Location & Surveys unit provides support services for engineering analysis, mapping and other data for the design of transportation facilities and the acquisition of property for the construction of transportation facilities.

We are looking for a talented entry-level engineer to work with our engineers and field survey crews in the collection and presentation of mapping information for transportation design and right of way acquisition.


This role requires independent application of professional engineering/survey related policies, procedures, and standards to moderately difficult transportation of analysis projects and assists higher level engineers on major and/or complex projects or tasks.


You will assist higher level engineer supervisor in functional areas, such as scheduling survey crews; coordinating different groups including in-house and private survey crews working together; reviewing, negotiating, assigning scope of work to be performed by others (in-house or private survey crews); reviewing and compiling data and mapping collected by others.


You may be required to serve as member of survey crew in field operations, including working outside under any environmental conditions.


What you bring



  • Knowledgeable of surveying principles as those apply to boundary, geodetic, and route surveying.

  • Experience scheduling survey crews and experience estimating and scoping man-hours for survey work.

  • Working knowledge of GNSS survey procedures and processing.

  • Working knowledge of coordinate systems and datum's as used in surveying.

  • Experience reviewing the work of others in CADD.


Your Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


The position may require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
