The Right Environment

With a student body of just over 1,700, our college is one of the smallest at NC State, home to a close-knit community and students who get the attention they deserve β€” including personalized advising and instruction. At the same time, our students benefit from all the resources and support of NC State, the largest university in North Carolina.

Our college also offers the best of both worlds in terms of location: We’re based in Raleigh β€” the state’s capital and one of America’s most-awarded cities β€” but enjoy easy access to exceptional outdoor learning labs, including Schenck Forest just 10 minutes from our door and Hill Forest only 45 minutes away.

Whether you want to study the native animals of Namibia or the forests of Sweden, our college will give you the opportunity to study the environment, diverse societies and engineering of sustainable resources around the world. And you’ll do it all at a university consistently ranked as one of the nation’s best values in education.

Our own Katherine Griffey β€˜26 recently asked students: What is one piece of advice they have for staying motivated during finals?

Check out what they had to say. πŸ“š
We are thankful to all our students, faculty and staff. ❀️ 🐾

Recently, we spoke to a few of our students and asked them to describe #NCStateCNR in just seven words. Check out what they had to say.
Our own Dr. Sunkyu Park recently received the 2025 Andrew Chase Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. πŸŽ‰

This prestigious award recognizes Dr. Park’s contributions to the field of forest biomaterials and his leadership in advancing research and education in his field. He has been working to turn waste from the pulp and paper industry into the biofuel of the future.

Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, Dr. Park!

Recently, several students, including our own Ellie Boitnott, shared their research and creativity in a unique way at D.H. Hill Jr. Library. 🎨 πŸ”¬

At the annual Sidewalk Symposium, undergraduate students shared their research through sidewalk chalk drawings and informal presentations. During the symposium, Boitnott, a senior majoring in environmental sciences, presented her research on climate change and mental health.

β€œThis kind of builds off of research I did last semester for a senior capstone course. It was all about social media eco-anxiety β€” anxiety caused by climate-related social media, and how it affects our mental health. And so this was more just general mental health and climate change.”
