Dr. Wellman was a member of the Forestry faculty at Virginia Tech from 1976-1990, during which time he taught courses in natural resources policy and outdoor recreation behavior and pursued scholarly work in outdoor recreation policy, public involvement in public natural resource planning, urban forestry, and professional education. In 1990, he joined the College of Forest Resources at NC State University as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. In this position he developed and taught an undergraduate course in natural resources and a graduate course in leisure theory and worked with others in the development of new interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs in natural resources management. In 1998, he became the founding director of the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning, a university-wide faculty development office at NC State. Dr. Wellman is author/co-author of over 100 publications and presentations.
