Bio
Dr. Michael J. Kocurek, Professor Emeritus, is one of the world’s most recognized educators in the pulp and paper industry. His focus is on pulp and paper technology, paper properties, stock prep refining workforce and professional development. In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate students, he has taught continuing education CE courses on pulping and the manufacture of linerboard, printing paper and tissue to industry operators and professionals at over 50 paper industry corporations as well as government and other organizations. Mike has taught TAPPI’s oldest short course on Introduction to Pulp & Paper for over 33 years. He is the editor of 11 books and the author of 25 video publications.
Dr. Kocurek received his B.S., M.S., and PhD degrees in Paper Science & Engineering from the SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry and Syracuse University. He has served as Department Head at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and at NC State University. He has also served as Executive Director of the Herty Foundation for the State of Georgia. His honors include TAPPI Fellow, Distinguished Service Award and induction into the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame an honor bestowed to recognize people who have made preeminent contributions to the global paper industry.
