Dr. Rea has co-authored three books and numerous monographs and technical reports on natural resource recreation planning and management. He has chaired over 20 masters degree committees, served on four doctoral committees and has been a Graduate School representative to one Ph.D. committee. He has been successful in acquiring several grants for faculty and graduate student research.
Among his professional activities, Dr. Rea has served as the President and as a member of the board of directors of the Society of Park and Recreation Educators, Governor’s Advisory Board for State Parks, and is the treasurer of the Park Fund Foundation of N.C., Inc. He is currently a member of the Council on Accreditation sponsored jointly by NRPA and AALR, and is President-Elect of the North Carolina Recreation and Park Society. He is one of 125 members of the American Academy of Park and Recreation Administration, which limits educator membership to 24. He has received the Fellow Award from the North Carolina Recreation and Park Society and the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Indiana University Department of Park and Recreation Administration and is a member of the NCSU Academy of Outstanding Teachers.
