Dr. Wilson’s major teaching interests include environmental education, natural and historic resource interpretation, health promotion and wellness, general program planning, and arts management. Research interests include health promotion and marketing for senior adults, rural recreation and land-use planning, and environmental education. She has published in the Journal of Environmental Education, Currents-The Journal of Food, Nutrition and Health, Southeastern Recreation Research Journal, The Bradford Papers Annual, Perspectives on Aging, and the North Carolina Recreation and Park Review.
Dr. Wilson speaks nationally on the topics of program planning and marketing for senior adults and does research on senior adults funded by North Carolina Senior Games, Inc. She received the 1992 Outstanding Teacher Award and was inducted into the Academy of Outstanding Teachers. Dr. Wilson has recently received the Alumni Distinguished Professor Award. She received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Education for developing a model residential environmental education program.
