Wake County announces winners of the Sheila B. Jones Environmental Education Scholarship
Addisu Serba, a senior at North Carolina State University, and Dae Borg, a sophomore at Appalachian State University, have been named the first recipients of the Sheila B. Jones Environmental Education Scholarship. Each received $1,000 to support their studies and future careers in environmental education.
The scholarship, established this year by Friends of the Wake Soil and Water Conservation District, recognizes students committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
“Addisu and Dae stood out for their skills, experience and passion for environmental education” said Wake County Commissioner Donald Mial. “We are excited to support their journey and see the positive impact they will have in this field.”
The scholarship is open to high school seniors and college students in Wake County. Applications for next year will open in May 2025.
