Environmental Education and Communication

Building Environmental Literacy
To address grand challenges such as global environmental change and shrinking biodiversity, we need people who understand the science behind complex environmental problems, care about the issues, and are motivated and equipped to work toward solutions. Our faculty work to build environmental literacy in a host of contexts within North Carolina and beyond, bringing together faculty from across campus to study best practices for science communication, how to connect children and nature, how to integrate nature-based learning into our schools, how to leverage citizen and participatory science to inspire engagement with the natural world, and how to empower youth and communities to pursue sustainable solutions
