Geospatial Forum with Dr. Josh Gray – Kalman Filter Applications in Remotely Sensed Imaging

December 1, 2016 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Dr. Joshua Gray | Assistant Professor | Forestry & Environmental Resources | NC State University

Kalman Filters are used in a wide variety of signal processing applications to fuse multiple noisy signals and forecast system states. Here, we investigate the potential of Kalman Filters to fuse multisource, multispectral satellite imagery. In particular: obtaining robustly gap-filled time series for mapping and predicting land surface phenology. The methodology is extended to incorporate biophysical understanding of how weather drives phenological variation.
