Yu-Fai uses geospatial analytics to advance the science and practice of sustainable visitor (recreation and tourism) management in parks and protected areas. He develops visitor use and impact indicators, monitoring protocols and efficacy evaluation tools for protected areas in the United States and abroad. His interests include examining how park use and environmental factors influence patterns and intensity of visitor impacts, and how such impacts influence subsequent visitor behavior and experience.
