Geospatial Forum with Dr. Anders Huseth

April 8, 2021 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Landscape-scale intensification of individual crops and pesticide use that is associated with this change is a problem that has had unequal effects on pests with different lifecycles, host ranges, and dispersal abilities. Understanding the fundamental connections between agricultural intensification and pests remains a major obstacle to improving the long-term sustainability of modern agriculture. In this forum, we will discuss the linkages between insect communities, agricultural landscapes, and their management in support of sustainable agriculture and healthy agroecosystems.

Bio

Anders Huseth is an Assistant Professor in NC State’s Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, and a CGA Faculty Fellow. Much of his time is devoted to insect pest management with responsibilities for insect pests affecting field crops and sweet potatoes statewide. His research focuses on the development of integrated pest management systems and applied insect ecology with an emphasis on geospatial approaches to describe insect dispersal and movement, population dynamics, and insecticide resistance management.
