Geospatial Studio: Soil and Water Assessment Tool for Ecohydrological Modeling
March 1, 2018 @ 9:00 am - March 2, 2018 @ 5:00 pm
Join us for a special two-day Geospatial Studio on ecohydrological modeling for land conversion studies, using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT).
Changes in land use affect the sustainability of ecosystems by altering the availability of resources upon which human well-being depends. Ecohydrological models are suitable for quantifying the effect of land use change on hydrological and ecological processes of ecosystems. However, integration of various key components to ecohydrological models is often a gap in knowledge and experience for many interdisciplinary scientists. This Geospatial Studio will provide students and staff with skills to integrate spatial, environmental data for building an ecohydrological model.
We will train new users of SWAT as well as promote networking between NC State University researchers using SWAT. Join us for hands-on training in the following topics: (1) model set-up, (2) calibration, (3) validation, and (4) post processing of outputs. We will also share example applications of SWAT research taking place around the NC State campus.
Space is limited for this Geospatial Studio, and registration is required. If you are interested in attending this training, please fill out this form by December 15, 2017. Participants will be selected from the pool of respondents to ensure inclusion of a range of researchers from diverse departments working on a variety of projects; beginner SWAT users are encouraged to submit. All respondents to the form will be notified no later than February 1, 2018, whether they will have a space at the Studio.
Participants will also receive an email from organizers prior to the Studio regarding software requirements or suggestions and should bring their own laptops to the training.
Instructors: Dr. Kunwar Singh (postdoctoral scholar, Dept. of Forestry and Environmental Resources, NC State) and Dr. Sheila Saia (postdoctoral scholar, Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education & United States Forest Service, NC State affiliate).
