  • Kings Mountain, NC

What High School did you gradate from?

  • Kings Mountain High School

What is your Intended Major:

  • Paper Science and Engineering & Chemical Engineering

Why did you Choose NC State:

  • I have grown up on a farm and as long as I can remember, NC State has been the only choice for me. I have shifted my interests over the years from animals to equipment and products used in agriculture. I found the College of Natural Resources with the help of my high school Chemistry teacher and have been able to find a major that will allow me to be successful in the industry through education in renewable resources and processes that will produce more efficient, productive and safer farms.

What activities did you participate in during high school ? What was you favorite and why?

  • I have participated in diverse extra-curricular activities throughout my high school career as I sought to find my passion and what I really wanted to do for the rest of my life. Much of my time outside of high school revolved around work and activities on the farm from raking and baling hay to fixing fences and helping to deliver calves. For many years, I participated in our county 4-H program where I was involved with clubs and leadership activities. Throughout high school, I also participated in chorus and track & field as well as school clubs like Debate club, FFA, Beta Club and Interact Club that provided opportunities for community service experiences. My favorite service activity was Breakfast with Santa that I volunteered for with our local Women’s Club. The community interaction and being able to see the immediate impact made this event memorable for me.

What are you most excited about as you head to college?

  • I look forward to new experiences and opportunities that are not common to my rural, small town upbringing. I am very excited to be in class again and interact with teacher and classmates because these experiences have not been possible for the last year as a remote student.

What are you most nervous about as you head to college?

  • I am most nervous about finances and the idea of student loans.

What would people be most surprised about you?

  • People are surprised to know that I was raised by a Tarheel. My mom is a UNC graduate but has always supported my passion for NC State.

What are you going to miss the most?

  • I am going to miss my dog. I adopted him from a shelter when he was 3 months old and he is my constant companion.

What is your favorite quote?

  • “We are not called to be comfortable. If you are comfortable, you are only serving yourself.” – my youth pastor
