ABB’s “Trade Show on Wheels” Stops at NC State

On September 4 & 5, 2019, more than 200 engineering students plus faculty, staff and administrators had the opportunity to tour ABB’s mobile showcase truck.  This mobile exhibit is the latest in innovative control and automation solutions for the pulp and paper industry.  While this exhibit is specific to the pulp and paper industry, the innovations and concepts are also applicable to the 22 additional industries that ABB services.

Right to your Back Door

A dedicated team of eight ABB employees staffed the truck for two days, with a constant flow of touring students every twenty minutes.  Our Pulp and Paper Advisory Board members also visited the exhibit as a part of their fall board meeting.  Some features of the mobile exhibit include ABB’s Ability ™  Collaborative Operations Center;  DCS solutions; measurement, analytics and instrumentation; pulp and process measurements; L&W Autoline; CD control actuators;  Quality Management (NP1200 scanner) System and a web imaging and monitoring systems.  One of ABB’s’goals with this “trade show on wheels” is to allow mill teams and personnel the opportunity to see, try and learn about the latest digital technologies and industry solution to improve the mill’s bottom line.  All of this, while removing the barrier of required travel, since they bring the showcase right to your location.

Students Crave Controls and Automation Knowledge

TAPPI Student Chapter President Michael McKenzie had this to say about his visit in the ABB truck: “As a student, it is imperative that we learn about power, controls and automation solutions.  We are grateful to ABB for their support and spending so much of their time, energy and resources to bring this opportunity to NC State.  In addition to being a very educational experience, it was motivating and exciting to see trends and future applications for our industry.”

NC State university it extremely grateful for this opportunity.  Thank you ABB, Wolfpack Alumni and the many other partners who made this event possible.
