More Than 50 Employers Connect With Forest Biomaterials Students

The first ever College of Natural Resources (CNR) Career Fair was hosted on October 17, 2019 in partnership with NC State’s Career Development Center. More than 50 companies and 425 students were in attendance. In previous years the college partnered with other entities on campus such as the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Attending companies relayed their satisfaction with both the quality of students and delivery of the career fair. They were pleased that students were prepared to converse noticing the majority already had relevant, hands-on experiences. It was a targeted and more manageable way to reach students skilled in the areas actually, both for internships and full-time positions.

In particular, Forest Biomaterials students had the opportunity to network with Enviva, Arauco, Georgia-Pacific, WestRock, International Paper to name just a few. Jacob Johnson, a sophomore in Sustainable Materials and Technology student found the breadth of companies present to be impressive, stating “The most beneficial part of the career fair was getting to see how broad the career options are post undergrad. I liked seeing creative ways students are using the Sustainable Materials & Technology major.”

Graham Granger is a junior in Sustainable Materials & Technology who is also pursuing a Business Administration minor. He described the career fair as, “a great place to practice professional skills and grow your network. But, my favorite part was that it reminds you of the job opportunities and industries available after graduation.”

The CNR Career Fair also provided a valuable experience for graduate level students. Ph.D. Candidate, Marielis Zambrano, says that the event was “an excellent experience to practice informal interviews and networking. I am currently looking for jobs and these kinds of events help me to explore the options available in the market. I look forward to participating in these activities in the future”.

Thank you to all of our participating companies and we look forward to seeing you at next year!

Save the date. Next CNR Career Fair: September 23, 2020.
