Work Experience:

Why did you choose Paper Science and Engineering (PSE)?

  • I chose PSE because of the abundant opportunities that are available to a graduate of this program. The professors know who you are, hold you accountable, and are always available for advice, creating students that hold an incredible reputation within the school and industry. The department encourages its students to explore beyond the Pulp and Paper Industry and truly want what’s best for their future.

What is your favorite thing about PSE?

  • My favorite thing about PSE is the amazing close knit atmosphere. The PSE program is a small community on a large campus.

What is your favorite thing about NC State?

  • My favorite thing about NC State is the atmosphere of acceptance. The school truly has a niche for everyone, and it is so easy to find your passion!

What advice would you offer to an incoming freshman?

  • Get involved! The best thing to do at NC State is to join any clubs that interest you. It is the greatest way to meet more people and make the NC State campus feel much smaller and manageable. The ability to recognize people throughout campus will make you feel homier, get you involved, and help you make meaningful connections!

What is your favorite extra-circular activity and why?

  • I loved being a member of Dance Marathon at NC State. Dance Marathon at NC State is an organization that raises money for the Children’s Miracle Network at Duke Children’s Hospital. We fund raise all year and then finish the year with a 12-hour no-sit, no-sleep Dance Marathon celebration in honor of the kids at Duke Children’s. Being able to participate with a non-profit, and eventually run the organization, was so rewarding and introduced me to some of my best friends. I participated with Dance Marathon at NC State all 4 years at NC State and helped to raise over $270,000 for Duke Children’s!

What is the greatest obstacle you have faced thus far?

  • I think that my biggest obstacle was time management in college. My problem was that I wanted to do everything, and do everything well. It took me a while to determine which of my opportunities were the most important to me and deserved my time and effort. With time management, and pursuing excellence, I also had to learn how to prioritize taking care of myself and taking time to slow down.
