Why did you choose  Paper Science and Engineering (PSE)?

  • I choose PSE because of how much emphasis the program puts on the success of the students. This was communicated not only from the faculty, but also by the current students that I met during my visits. I knew that any question or problem I had, I would be able to come to anybody in the program and get help.

What is your favorite thing about Paper Science and Engineering?

  • My favorite thing about PSE is the family atmosphere within the program. Some courses throughout my collegiate career have been 200 people or more. All of my PSE courses that I have taken, each professor personally got to know me, not just inside the classroom but outside also. This has provided a much better experience throughout this program compared to other departments I have taken courses in.

What is your favorite thing about NC State?

  • NC State has been a great experience, but my favorite thing about NC State is the school pride that every student, faculty member, and alumnus has. This is not only prevalent during any school event, but in the workforce too. Every company that I have had the opportunity working for has had a vast number of alumni from NC State. This has proven how NC State provides a great experience not only while in college, but afterwards also.

What advice would you offer to an incoming freshman?

  • The one piece of advice that I would give an incoming freshman is to expand their horizon when they enter college. College is about gaining valuable knowledge and understanding what type of activities you are interested in. I got involved with many extracurricular activities that I thought I wouldn’t enjoy, but after three years in college, I still heavily involved with.

What has been your greatest challenge?

  • My greatest challenge has been the delicate balance between social life and academics. Academics should be the number one priority of any student, but it should not be the only time commitment a student has. Finding the balance between sports, friends, extracurricular activities, and academics has been challenging, but has provided the best college experience.

Who has been your favorite staff and/or faculty member?

  • As a rising senior in the program, I have had most of the professors so far in PSE, but my favorite is Dr. Jameel. What makes him my favorite is his ability to connect with the students inside and outside of the classroom. He is an excellent professor, but he is also available for when any student needs advice outside of the classroom.
