Why did you choose  Paper Science and Engineering (PSE)?

  • I chose PSE because of the incredible job security, as well as the small class sizes. I went to a very small high school, and was nervous about attending a large university such as NC State. PSE allows me to have all the benefits of a large university, such as tailgates and large sporting events, while also providing me with small class sizes and good relationships with professors.

What is your favorite thing about Paper Science and Engineering?

  • My favorite thing about PSE is the professors. They truly care about the students’ success and actually get to know the students.

What is your favorite thing about NC State?

  • My favorite part about NC State is the people. I have met some incredible friends, classmates, and professors during my time here, and I am excited to see who else I will meet before I graduate. Having lived in one town my whole life, it was amazing to meet so many people from different backgrounds, states, and countries.

What advice would you offer to an incoming freshman?

  • My advice to a freshman would be to make friends with as many people as you can, especially during the first few weeks on campus. Eventually you will find your friend group that you spend most of your time with, but walking around campus to your classes is much more enjoyable when you pass people you know. Also, it increases your chances of knowing someone in your classes, which can help when trying to form a study group.

What has been your greatest challenge?

  • My greatest challenge comes at the beginning of each semester. I like to have a routine, and whenever I need to conform to a new class/homework schedule, I get very stressed and anxious. After a week or two, I find myself a rhythm, and from that point onward it is smooth sailing.

Who has been your favorite staff and/or faculty member?

  • My favorite professor thus far has been Dr. Jameel. He makes his lectures fun and easy to pay attention to, and he explains the information in a way that makes sense. He is very approachable and is always happy to help his students.
