Open House Connects the Pack Virtually
Every year North Carolina State University hosts an Open House event to educate prospective students about the various academic programs, extracurricular activities, and campus resources offered by the university. This year’s open house would still go on, but like many things, it would look different, being completely virtual. The event spanned 5 days and had a mixture of live and semi-live events. Once a student registered, they were able to choose the sessions they were interested in, as well as watch recordings of the presentations. During each session, students were able to ask questions and receive real-time answers from university representatives.
Skill Stacking Develops a Well Rounded Graduate
The College of Natural Resources hosted multiple sessions that gave more information about the variety of majors offered in the college and the student experience provided. The Engineering and Innovation semi-live session featured the majors: Paper Science and Engineering, Sustainable Materials and Technology, and Environmental Technology and Management. Jennifer Piercy, Director of Student Recruiting and alumna of Paper Science and Engineering, lead the presentation. She explained the types of jobs and industries graduates from each major work in, as well as the curriculum and student services that we offer. She also elaborated on how the College of Natural Resources focuses on “skill stacking” to help develop the whole student.
Students share the Why behind CNR
Jennifer was joined by two current students during the presentation. Larden Garland, a junior studying Paper Science and Engineering and Chemical Engineering and Logan Mossbarger a senior studying Sustainable Materials and Technology, Environmental Technology and Management, and a Renewable Energy Assessment minor. The students described their majors, industry experience, and campus involvement. Additionally, they discussed why they chose the College of Natural Resources and why they enjoy being a student in the college.
Overall, Open House was a successful event that provided prospective students with information about the university and the opportunities it offers. The College of Natural Resources was able to share our majors, services and passions with close to 400 individuals!
