Packaging Corporation of America Endows Scholarship to Honor Dr. Hasan Jameel

This fall, to commemorate and recognize Dr. Hasan Jameel’s 12 years of service to PCA as a director, the Packaging Corporation of America endowed scholarship was created at NC State University for students studying Paper Science and Engineering. Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) is the third largest producer of containerboard, corrugated packaging and uncoated freesheet in North America.  PCA is a Fortune 500 company with approximately 15,000 employees, eight paper mills and over 90 plants in their network.

In 2008, Dr. Hasan Jameel began serving on the Board of Directors for PCA.  Dr. Jameel was selected to serve on the board primarily for his technical expertise in pulp and paper manufacturing and his knowledge of, and familiarity with, paper mill operations, as well as his general business acumen, all of which are core to PCA’s business. In May 2020, after 12 years of service on the board, Dr. Jameel decided to step down from this position and PCA wanted to commemorate and recognize his service and dedication with an endowed scholarship.

Dr. Jameel has been the recipient of several awards and honors since he began his career at NC State in 1987.  He was recognized as the outstanding teacher and outstanding advisor, awarded the undergraduate and graduate alumni distinguished professor award, named a TAPPI Fellow, as well as the Jordan Family Distinguished Professor of Natural Resources.  This  PCA Endowed Scholarship is, in Dr. Jameel’s opinion, “the best way to honor both his service with PCA, and his career as a professor by creating an endowment that will help future students.”

Many thanks to Packaging Corporation of America for their longstanding support and partnership with NC State.
