Why did you choose Paper Science and Engineering (PSE)?

  • I choose PSE because it provided a unique opportunity to further advance my engineering knowledge, open more opportunities in my career, and have a higher quality educational experience during my undergraduate career.

What is your favorite thing about Paper Science and Engineering?

  • My favorite thing about PSE is applicability and practicality of the coursework. Unlike other engineering classes I have had, the coursework in the PSE program is directly related to the knowledge and technical expertise required of incoming engineers in a wide variety of potential industries. This knowledge has allowed me to accelerate my growth as a future working professional faster and further than I could have ever expected as an undergraduate.

What is your favorite thing about NC State?

  • The quality of education for the cost of attendance. As an out of state student, I could not speak higher on the value of paying an out of state tuition to attend NC State. The combination of unmatched faculty, limitless resources, and optimal location in the Research Triangle provide an educational experience that is worth the extra tuition cost because you cannot get this experience at just any engineering school.

What advice would you offer to an incoming freshman?

  • It is totally OK if you do not know where you want to work full time when you get to college. Since this department is so unique in the amount of industry opportunities you get at such an early age, it is natural to feel self inflicted pressure to lock up your full time future at age 18. The great thing about this department and NC State is that there are so many opportunities in various fields, companies, and roles that by the time you graduate, you could have experienced multiple different jobs and get the best sense of what you want out of a career. Enjoy college, learn as much as you can, and figure out what makes you the happiest in engineering.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

  • I have a passion for reselling used high end leather luxury goods. It is a great side hustle and hobby of mine I thoroughly enjoy doing!

Who has been your greatest challenge?

  • My greatest challenge was starting my first internship as a 19 year old rising sophomore. I had no idea what I was getting myself into and was nervous for such a big leap in my personal and professional life. However, it was an amazing experience that taught me so much about engineering and further validated why I went to college to study engineering.
