Why did you choose Paper Science and Engineering (PSE)?

  • PSE offers such a rewarding experience and everyone in the program cares so much about making me become the best version of myself. Whether it is through professional development, academia, or life lessons, PSE will help you to become a successful person and engineer.

What is your favorite thing about Paper Science and Engineering?

  • The family-like atmosphere. I have been able to make so many connections and friendships within PSE, and I am so thankful for that. All of the professors and staff make you feel like you are all in one big family. PSE really does feel like a “home away from home” here at NC State.

What is your favorite thing about NC State?

  • The campus-wide drive to develop professional skills for obtaining a job. During my time here at NC State thus far, I have seen that there are so many resources to help students prepare to get an interview and secure a job. This is very impressive and also beneficial because this is what sets NC State apart from most schools. We are not only focused on academics and education, but also real-world readiness and career readiness for the future.

What advice would you offer to an incoming freshman?

  • Some advice that I would give to an incoming freshman would be to try new things. It is very crucial that during your college career, you learn more about yourself. While learning more about yourself, you will meet new friends and people, and ultimately you will be expanding your horizons as a person and a student. In order to learn more about yourself, you have to try new things like clubs, organizations, sports, etc. This helps to make the transition to college, a much easier experience, and makes you feel much more comfortable at a large school like NC State.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

  • People would be surprised to know that I really enjoy painting. It is a new skill that I have developed throughout the pandemic, and it has become one of my favorite hobbies.

What is the biggest obstacle you have faced thus far?

  • The biggest obstacle that I have faced thus far in college is learning that it is normal to not succeed at everything. It can be very stressful trying to manage everything in college, and it was challenging for me to realize that getting a perfect grade on everything is not always going to happen. College is not made to be easy, so the main thing is to just focus on working hard in your classes and enjoying the time you have on this amazing campus!
