TAPPICON 2021 – Live and In Person

During the first weekend of October, a group of 13 students had the chance to attend TAPPICon 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia. This was the first year that the department sponsored a group of students to attend, and this group represented all years. Although it had its similarities to the Student Summit, this conference was a different experience as it focused more on the industry and how it has grown and also gave students a great opportunity to network and to learn more about the new technologies coming to the industry. This conference allowed for each student to have their own experience as they could participate in a mentor match program, speak with over 100 companies, listen to lectures on industry topics, and so much more! One of my favorite events was learning about the mill of the future and how automation will play a role in the pulp and paper industry.

Each evening after the day’s programs concluded, students also had the opportunity to explore the amazing Battery Atlanta district, getting to see the Atlanta Braves Stadium just before they headed off to the playoffs. Overall, I believe that the conference was a great experience for students of all year levels, allowing each student to be able to grow their knowledge and love for the industry even more.
