Meet Abby Norris!

Abby Norris is the new Student Services Coordinator within the Department of Forest Biomaterials. Abby will be supporting the recruiting efforts of our Sustainable Materials & Technology undergraduate program and our Forest Biomaterials graduate program. Welcome, Abby!

Please tell us a little bit about yourself both personally and professionally? 

Personally- I am from a small town called Elizabethtown, NC that is between Wilmington and Fayetteville. I graduated from UNC Chapel Hill and will always be a Tar Heel at heart. I have a little brother that goes to school here in the engineering program. I also recently got engaged and will be getting married in late July. Finally, I have a golden retriever named Finn who is the best boy ever. 

Professionally- Having graduated pre med, I had always worked towards applying to PA school. Post grad, I continued my high school/college job as a pharmacy technician while also obtaining a job as a medical assistant. From there I earned my EMT licensure, that I still keep current, and began a 3rd job as an EMT. Working 3 jobs during the pandemic, in a largely affected area, took an indescribable toll on me which prompted my change into education. I then worked for a high school in Johnston county for 2 years teaching earth and environmental science as well as anatomy and physiology before coming to join the team at NCSU. 

What do you enjoy most about the College of Natural Resources and/or NC State University?

Everyone here has been really nice and supportive so far. I also really like the flexibility of the work day and being able to be close to my little brother that goes to school here. 

What do you do for fun? 

In my free time I enjoy going to the movies, the beach, playing sports, napping, fishing, or spending time with my dog, Finn.

What is your favorite tv show/movie/ and/or musical artist? 

TV shows: Bones, Criminal Minds, Wednesday… Honestly anything true crime, horror, or mystery related.

Favorite ice cream flavor?

Chocolate, by far.

What is something people may not know about you? 

I am actually in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
