Why did you choose Paper Science and Engineering (PSE)?

  • I initially joined PSE because Dr. Byrd convinced me to sign up for PSE 201 my Freshman year. I may have joined because of Dr. Byrd charisma but I stayed because I ended up really enjoying the class and the content. I appreciated the blend between large industrial processes and working with renewable resources.

What is your favorite thing about Paper Science and Engineering?

  • My favorite thing about PSE; apart from the great faculty, excellent lab experience, and ready access to industry experiences; is the community. From my experience everyone in PSE is so passionate about what they do. It is very fulfilling to be able to work with and alongside such bright and supportive people.

What is your favorite thing about NC State?

  • My favorite thing about NC State is the facilities. NC State has great labs, excellent libraries, good food halls, and a fantastic gym.

What advise would you give to an incoming freshman?

  • My advice to incoming Freshman is if you think you know what you want, keep an open mind and don’t be afraid to explore all your options. If you don’t know what you want, try a lot. You have time to figure things out.

What is your favorite extra-cirrricular activity?

  • My favorite extra-curricular activity would have to be the intermural sports at NC State. They are a great way to get some good exercise and meet a lot of new people. I’ve done dodgeball, ultimate frisbee, soccer, kickball, volleyball, and my all time favorite, pool battleship.
