PSE Summer Camp Excites

The summer can be a slower time for on campus events, but the last week of June was anything but slow. Twenty-four exceptional high school students descended on campus, all eyes and ears, ready to learn more about paper science and engineering. The students, many local, but all from North Carolina, quickly settled into dorms and college life for the first time. They separated into teams for the week’s competitions and showed marked interest in their faculty-cultivated labs while being attended to by our Director of Undergraduate Recruiting, Angie Rush and our camp counselors.

Campers had a different lab or two each day as well as a lecture delivered by PSE faculty: Dr. Med Byrd, Dr. Hasan Jameel, Dr. Richard Vendetti and Dr. Joel Pawlak. What fortunate students to have faculty make the time for them! The end of the week brought team presentations in front of faculty, staff and parents in which the students did a remarkable job despite some jitters. We are thrilled to have already had campers reaching out on how to apply for the PSE program this fall.
