2024 PSE / PGM Golf Tournament

The long-awaited 2024 PSE / PGM Scholarship Golf Tournament started off with a bang…of thunder. Despite the persistent and drenching rain brought by a tropical system, spirits were not dampened. Over 80 players responded to the need to raise funds for Paper Science and Engineering and the Pro Golf Management programs. Each year, the programs collaborate, both in the College of Natural Resources, to bring together supporters at the beautiful, Arnold Palmer-designed golf course on Centennial Campus–the only one of its kind on a college campus!

As part of the usual events, Allen Sanders, Executive Director of the NC State Pulp and Paper Advisory Board, kicked off the delayed start by acknowledging the disappointment that his line to Mother Nature went unanswered; but that as a result, all present would receive a 15% discount at the pro shop courtesy of Scott Clagg who extended the member discount to our tournament players. PSE and PGM thank him for his gesture, it was noticeably appreciated by those pouring over the golf gear on display. Further announcements included the available giveaway chance to win with a donation to the scholarship fund, the onsite golf simulator run by PGM’s Dr. Tony Rosselli, Director of Player Development, for the closest to the pin contest, lunch details (sponsored by PSE partner, Valmet) and the hope play would eventually commence.

While players were not able to get on the course, attendees took advantage of the gathering to network with each other, catch up with faculty and students and enjoy some downtime while raising much needed scholarship funds. Lonnie Poole granted certificates to return to play on a day of player’s choice in the next year which brightened everyone’s outlook on the dreary day. PSE / PGM wish to acknowlege and thank our Gold sponsors: Solenis, Nicholson Resource Group/Ronnie Hise & Associates, Albany International, International Paper, Christopher Bridges and Pratt Industries as well as our continuing lunch sponsor, Valmet. Additionally, STITCH Golf contributed Wolfie embroidered golf towels for all players.

All in all, the day was successful for it’s purpose, to raise scholarship funds. The event contributed nearly $10,000 to be split by the programs, thank you to everyone who attended, who helped run the event and who supports PSE and PGM in our efforts to support students.
